The fund-raising campaign for The Gambia’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations is in high gear with National Coordinating Committee (NCC) so far collecting a little over D9 million. The bulk of the monies came from GSM partner Africell, providing D8million while President Adama Barrow made a personal donation of D1million. One of the new banks in town, Vista Bank donated D250,000 while a tailor, Musa Mendy provided D10.000.

The NCC thanked the donors and urged other groups to make generous donations to the campaign, which is seeking to raise D117million  as a budget to ensure the country’s participation in the tournament in Cameroon in January 2022.

According to NCC spokesman Musa Sise, the fund-raising activities will continue targeting the business and private sector. ”The Ministry of Finance which is a member of the NCC will very soon hold meetings with banks in addition to other activities.”
