It is now official. The Gambia has lost its appeal against a Caf decision which affirmed that Togo is qualified to use Olufade Adewale against Gambia in Lome on October 12 last year.
The Gambia had appealed that the player was Nigerian and should not have played. Dissatisfied, The Gambia Football Federation put up a legal fight including hiring a foreign law firm, at the Court of Arbitration for Sports CAS seeking to overturn the Caf decision.
CAS ruled yesterday that the Gambia’s appeal is dismissed. However even if CAS was to decide in Gambia’s favour the addition 2 points from the match would still not be enough to overtake Benin which took the second available qualifying spot in the group.
The GFF announced the CAS decision yesterday with regret adding that they will not make any further comment on the matter.
