Calvary Untied Community Church is this week celebrating 20 years of existence. The celebrations will start on February 16 and would last until the 20th February.
Calvary United Community Church is a Bible-believing church which upholds holiness within and without, as the absolute gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
It was started by Pastor Bidwell Mendy from Marakissa village who has been ministering the Word of God to various villages of the Gambia while still a student at school.
After 15 years of such ministerial service with the Church of Pentecost, and planting more than 5 churches and fellowships, he travelled to Ghana for theological studies in 1992.
Upon his return, Mendy was ordained as a Pastor of Church of Pentecost and on the 16th February 2002, he started an indigenous-based ministry called Calvary United Community Church with a goal to “reach the unreached” in his own home country, The Gambia, in the local languages.
The Church now has 7 branches in The Gambia, 2 in neighbouring Senegal-Cassamance and 1 each in Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone.
The ministry also started a link with Global Health Organization (GHO)-U.S.A who two years ago sent doctors to The Gambia where they treated 3000 patients in five days. The group is expected in Banjul this year too, in April.
The Church is located at Kanifing South where the anniversary activities would be centered.
As part of the celebrations, a delegation of 11 pastors from different places in the United States would arrive here on Saturday to attend the anniversary.
