CHAN Gambia coach Alagie Sarr has been replaced, a posting on the GFF Facebook page appeared to have suggested. According to the GFF Omar Sise the Under 20 national team coach has been appointed, on promotion, as Gambia’s National Under 23/ and CHAN Team Head Coach with immediate effect.
Ceesay’s appointment came a week after the Junior Scorpions’ woeful exit in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier to Mali after the side’s 4-0 loss and thus ending their hopes to appear at the 2018 edition in Kenya. Omar’s first assignment is the WAFU Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ghana in September. He will be assisted by Aboulie Bojang.
The Gambia Football Federation says Omar will retain his job as Under 20 coach. “Sise was the one initially put in charge of the CHAN team before the GFF management took the unwise decision to chop him off the job only for them to swallow their pride to call him back but after the country was humiliatingly dumped out of the CHAN 2018 qualifiers. When will this GFF get it right?” a critic of Football House commented yesterday.
