Abuko-based Falcons FC are the 2017 champions.
They beat Talinding-based Farakono on Saturday in post match penalty shootouts after a goalless stalemate. The final was played at the East Park and watched by many including Sports Minister Henry Gomez.
Also present at the final were Abdoulie Star Jallow, first Vice President of The Gambia Football Federation; Bakary Badjie and Papa Njie, both mayoral aspirants for Kanifing Municipality in the upcoming Local Government Elections.
As winners, Falcons received a trophy and cash prize of D50, 000, while Farokono pocketed home a consolation prize of D30, 000.
The delay in the final was as a result of lack of sponsors for the tournament.
Serrekunda East Park is one of the biggest football zones and does attract quite a good number of spectators during the summer football fiesta, locally known as ‘Nawettan’.
