The Gambia Under- 20 have marked themselves a place in history beating one of the favorites Ivory coast to reach the final of the West African Football Union, Wafu, Zone A currently on in Liberia.
The Young Scorpions shocked Ivory Coast with an early lead but could not keep the Ivorians from coming back to level the scores late in the regulation time forcing the game to spot kicks.
After going ahead again, the Gambia’s shooters suffered a momentary jinx allowing the Ivorians to catch up. The shootout entered into sudden death with Gambia winning 8-7 and progressing to meet Liberia in the final on Saturday. The host beat Mali 1-0 in the other semi final.
