Police are investigating after an African man turned himself in for allegedly killing his Filipino wife at their home in To Kwa Wan, Kowloon, on Wednesday.
At 9:50pm, the suspect, an asylum seeker from The Gambia, reported to the police that he had killed his 40-year-old wife inside a subdivided apartment on Pang Ching Street, according to a government release.
Police and paramedics went to the apartment and found the woman lying on the bed. She had sustained injuries to her head and hands and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An initial investigation found that the man had an argument with his wife in the morning and the woman had been beaten during a fight, Oriental Daily reported.
The couple slept on the bed until evening. When the suspect woke up he found his wife was unconscious.
The suspect then went to the Wong Tai Sin Police Station to report the case.
It was understood that the woman, who held a Hong Kong Identity Card, was a former domestic worker. The suspect came to Hong Kong in 2012 from The Gambia and has been staying in the city as an asylum seeker. Post-mortem examinations will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
