The Gambia Police Force and Brikama Academy are the champions of the club and school categories respectively in the recent national athletics championship, a release from the GAA stated.
The national championship featured 5 clubs and 8 schools with nearly a hundred participants taking part in all the official events.
The championship is a marker for the Gambia Athletics Association to gauge the progress in the sport as well as determine the chart in term of athletics power among the competing clubs and schools.
The Police, which has a plethora of agile athletes, naturally dominates with great achievements in the long distance among other events. They finished a solid 142 points in total above second place finishers, GAF who scored 138.
Brikama Academy topped the school scoring with 240 points ahead of second place Mahad at 220.
Dodou Joof, the GAA president noted that there are more clubs in this year’s championship than before. “It is the most important activity in our calendar. The performance was been generally impressive“, he said.
