GPU mourns Ahmed Carayol

Veteran journalist Ahmed Carayol died Tuesday morning, his family has confirmed. He was laid to rest yesterday at the Bakoteh Cemetery.

Carayol worked at various newspapers, including The Independent, The Point, The Daily News, The Voice and The Monitor.

He was before all that working at the Information Department and sub- editor of the Gambia News Bulletin.

Ahmed also worked as editor of Tango Talks, a newsletter promoting the umbrella body of NGOs in The Gambia. He was about 70 years old.

The GPU President, Sheriff Bojang Jr said: “Our hearts go out to his family and relatives, particularly his wife and children.

We wish them strength and peace during this difficult time.

“We grieve the passing of a wonderful individual whose death is a huge loss to the Gambia media.”

Lamin Cham, editor at The Standard remembered Mr Carayol as a very simple man whose love for journalism was unrivaled.
