Guinean given 9 years for setting man ablaze

Abubacarr Bangura, a Guinean was sentenced by Magistrate Anna Mendy of the Brikama Magistrate’s Court for setting one Abdoulie Keita on fire following a quarrel.

The incident occurred on 11th August, 2019 in Farato, near Brikama.

An aggrieved Bangura went to the house of Keita and poured kerosene over him and used a lighter to set him ablaze.

The victim who sustained injuries on his face and left arm was taken to Farato Police Station and thereafter to Brikama Hospital.

In sentencing the Bangura, the magistrate remonstrated that such act should not be tolerated in The Gambia.

She then sentenced him to serve seven years imprisonment without an option of a fine and further ordered the victim to D15,000 as compensation, in default to serve two years imprisonment.

Magistrate Mendy ordered that Abubacarr Bangura to be deported to his native Guinea immediately upon serving his sentence.
