Press release

The Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (MRCG at LSHTM) wishes to inform the general public that we do not offer COVID-19 testing for travellers, free or paid.

The only exceptions for this service are for our staff and already designated partners. Members of the general public who do not belong in any of these categories should, therefore, note that they cannot obtain a COVID-19 test for travel purposes at our institution.

Our current COVID-19 diagnostics services are mainly being offered to support the Ministry of Health’s efforts.

All persons seeking testing for travel purposes are encouraged to visit the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 testing sites as follows: Independence Stadium in Bakau, KMC; Buffer Zone in Latrikunda, KMC; Brusubi Main Roundabout, adjacent to Petroleum House, WCR; and Brikama, behind Mbalet Junction, WCR. Please note that the Ministry now requires a payment of D2500 for this service.

The Ministry also has a free national helpline for COVID-19 concerns and questions.

You may call 1025 within The Gambia, from any network, for any inquiries.

The MRCG at LSHTM will continue to support the Government of The Gambia to ensure an effective response to the pandemic at all levels. We solicit your cooperation in this endeavour.
