His Excellency President Adama Barrow has received in audience the newly elected executive of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council at the Presidency in Banjul.
The delegation was at the State House in their capacity as leaders of the Muslim community in The Gambia. Speaking to the press after a closed-door meeting with President Barrow, Alhagie Essa Darboe, the newly elected President of the Council said the delegation came to share their plans with the President, as well as discuss socio-religious reforms that will help preserve peace and tolerance in The Gambia.
While thanking the President for the warm reception accorded to them, he further disclosed that President Barrow expressed his support towards the fulfilment of the Council’s mandate.
Imam Darboe used the opportunity to call on religious leaders in the country to preach peace and consolidate the gains of the country concerning the Islamic religion.
