A rough estimate of 100 people badly in need of surgery will benefit from free care at Serekunda General Hospital in Kanifing.
The programme is the second of its kind called ‘the surgical camp’ and is sponsored by Gambian charity, Vision Development Foundation of Momodou Turo Darboe.
According to Dr. Alhagie Manneh, a surgeon at the hospital, the camp will start on September 25 Wednesday at the hospital and ends the following day.
”This is a very significant development and very helpful to the Gambia government’s drive to provide good healthcare services for the citizens.
These patients would have no chance to pay for these surgeries or even if they could, they would have to wait in long queue,’ Dr Manneh said.
The PRO of VDF Saikou Fofana revealed that the surgery camp has been included in VDF’s annual scholarship programme which this year provided over D800,000 for Gambian students at various levels in The Gambia and abroad.
“The largest single sum went to the Hospital for this camp, which is the second edition. Our CEO Momodou Turo Darboe has placed great importance to the programme,” Fofana said.
Other beneficiaries include disaster victims.
