In the past few days, referees and coaches in NBR, LRR,CRR and URR benefited from coaching clinics and referee training courses courtesy of the Gambia Football Federation, GFF.
At each region, dozens of participants took part in the coaching course categorised as the D- License certificate course, the first step for any one pursuing football coaching education in The Gambia. Dozens of other regional football stakeholders were trained on the basic laws of the game to become referees in their respective regions. At the end of the training programmes yesterday, the GFF said in a press statement that the courses are in fulfillment of their promise to build capacities in the regions following a fact finding mission there.
The country-wide tour was headed by GFF technical director Ebrima Manneh and GFF referees manager Adama Mbye respectively. The resource persons for coaching were Caf coaching instructor Lamin Sambou, national team goal-keeper trainer Alhagie Marong, Matarr Mboge and Pa Suwareh Faye while Abdoulie Sowe and Abdoulie Jallow were part of the referee trainers team.
The GFF praised the regional football officials for showing great interest in the programmes, promising more outreach programmes ahead. The regional football associations were created under the new GFF constitution with rights to vote and be voted for at GFF congresses and are to be subvented by the GFF to enable them run their own leagues.
