The leader of the United Democratic Party, Ousainu Darboe has said no government or force will ever subject Gambians to political brutality as happened under the Jammeh regime.
He made these remarks while addressing a political rally in Farafenni Saturday.
The UDP leader said the momentum gained in the fight against abuse of office and unleashing of violence against people for political reasons will never be allowed again.
“No one will be allowed to use his office or power to victimise people in this country again,”’ Darboe said.
He warned that UDP and decent Gambians also advocated and fought for district chiefs to stay away from politics because they are traditional and respected rulers.
“But unfortunately we are seeing those chiefs being used as propaganda tools to push the political agenda of the government exactly the opposite of what the new Gambia stands for.
This is what we fought yesterday and today but we are seeing the reoccurrence in the country”, he lamented.
He alleged that those chiefs who were used as agents of brutalization against UDP militants are now being reinstated but they must know that UDP will never be suppressed again.
Mr Darboe also observed that civil servants and governors have no place in politics and the same thing goes for permanent secretaries.
“But on Saturday the meeting that was held in Brikama, secretary to the cabinet was there.
If any permanent secretary had attended our today’s meeting he or she will be sacked.
,” Darboe said.
“I am telling the Gambians that the fight we have made to emancipate this country that should not go in vain.
So let us come together to stamp out”, he urged.
