The opening leg should have been in Algeria this weekend but last night Real reported on its website that they are now told that they will instead host the opening leg in Banjul this Saturday.
Real President William Abraham confirmed the changes in an interview published on the club website. He said; “I am disappointed that we will host the first leg after we were informed that we will play in Sétif first according to the schedule. We made preparations to travel to Algeria and were set to leave on Tuesday morning, but this new development means we will shift our attention to hosting the match.”
But Mr Abraham also added that Real will make use of this new changes and translate it to the advantage of the club.
“It is vital that we make the most of our home advantage to put the team on a strong footing when travelling to Algeria for the return leg two weeks later,” continued Abraham.
He called on Gambians to once again come out in large numbers to support Real at the Independence Stadium, this Saturday, 14 March. If Real eliminates Setif, it will become the first Gambian team to reach the group stages of the African champions league.
