Last month, the Ministry of Interior took a major decision to temporarily suspend the issuance of ID cards and passports.
According the ministry, the suspension seeks to protect and promote the integrity of our national documents. This however was met with huge criticism especially those in the Diaspora who felt the suspension would affect them the most.
The ministry claimed it took that bold decision because it was embarking on a comprehensive review of the entire process of issuance of national documents.
However, barely a month since that suspension, the ministry has resumed the issuance. This is a commendable move!
It is important the ministry, like it said last month before it suspended the exercise, control and crosscheck the issuance of these cards to people.
The Standard commends the Interior Ministry for the review exercise and we hope that relevant data has been collected regarding the issuance of the national documents.
