Former Secretary General, Momodou Sabally, has advised the youths of Kuwonku, in the Upper River Region (URR) to be steadfast in their pursuit of education.
Sabally made these remarks last Saturday in Kuwonku URR, where he was invited to deliver a keynote speech for a community sensitisation programme on education, organised by Kuwonku Students Association.

“Looking at countries like the Asian tigers, we find that societies and nations can leapfrog the development process and catch up with the rest of the world if they prioritise and invest in quality education that is of relevance to their needs and times. Therefore if we are to achieve our national aspirations, The Gambia must ensure that young people have not only access to education, but access to quality education that is suited to the needs of our times,” the motivational speaker asserted.
He further advised the youths to desist from the perilous ‘back-way’ journey in search of non-existent treasures in the West.

Citing his own life story as an example, he emphasised to the youths that they can build up themselves and transform their lives and the livelihoods of their loved ones and communities by dedicating themselves to lifelong learning.
The Kuwonku Students Association was set up with the aim of promoting literacy and education as well as unity in the village.
