Deserving past and present sports personalities are going to be awarded and celebrated by the Sports Journalists’ Association of The Gambia (SJAG).
The Association will hold its 9th edition of the National Sports Awards and Gala Night on Friday, 27th April 2018 at the Djembe Hotel.
The awards have over the years been attended by hundreds of people from within and outside the country.
Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday ahead of the event, Alieu Ceesay, Secretary General of SJAG said preparations are at an advanced stage and they are looking forward to a successful of event.
The Awards night, according to SG Alieu Ceesay, deserves the support of all Gambians.
Ceesay said the nomination for the different categories was opened and Sports journalists can send in names of their nominees.
Musa Sise, President of SJAG who also doubles as Chairman of the Awards Committee said the Association is going to award the Best Local based athlete, Best foreign based athlete, Best coach of the year, Best referee of the year, Best team of the year, Sports personality of the year, Best female coach of the year, and best female athlete of the year.
According to him, there would be SJAG President’s Award to deserving individuals, awards to veterans and a special award to wrestling as a sport.
Namory Trawally, Treasurer of SJAG explained that D0.5M is the budget for the awards, while calling on institutions and companies to come on board and support SJAG.
Kaddy Cham, Assistant Treasurer, in her closing remarks commended the media personnel that turned up to attend the briefing.
