Following the announcement of new dates by the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone A, scheduling the U-17 tournament, the Gambia national Under 17 team, Baby Scorpions is heading back to training. The tourney will be held from the 29 January to the 7th February 2021 in Sierra Leone.

Head Coach Abdoulie Bojang told the GFF media that he is optimistic about the team’s ability in the forth-coming cadet tournament.

The coach said the new date is favorable since it would mean he and his team would have adequately prepared and continue their technical preparations ahead of the tournament.

The Wafu Organising Committee recently dispatched a communique announcing the new dates for the Zone A U17 tournament, which will also be used by CAF as Regional Qualifiers for the Afcon U17 tournament Morocco 2021. “The new dates would really help the Technical Team to have more time and prepare adequately hence some of our players are being affected by the MRI test”, Bojang noted.

The WAFU Zone A U-17 tournament was originally scheduled to take place in December 2020 in Sierra Leone. The tournament however was postponed by WAFU citing logistical problems although a new venue is yet to be announced.
