Banjul teens compete in Late HMM Njai tourney

Half Die football Academy won a grueling Under 12 football tourney as Banjul Football Academy clinched the Under 15 trophy in a special event staged to remember the late Housainou MM Njai.
The tournament was organised by Gambian Edrissa Sallah a Gambian coaching at Moneyfields F.C. a football club based in Portsmouth, England.

Six teams took part in the tourney, which is also designed to promote grassroots football in the country as well as give chance to the kids to showcase their talent.
Each of the winners were awarded a set of jersey and a cash prize of D2, 000, while the runners up were given a set of jersey as consolation prizes.

Ebrima Touray of Banjul Football Academy won the best player of the tournament
Speaking in an interview Edrissa Sallah said that they organised this tournament to promote grassroots football in the country, adding that he thinks that they need to help football development on the Gambia so as to get to the next level and as well as helping the kids to play in a safe environment and to be happy as well.
“We are trying to bring an academy league in the country as well as organizing a yearly football festival for the kids. It is going to take time but surely we would get there”, he said.

Modou Musa Njie, son of the Late Alagie Ousainou M.M Njie, joined others thank Edi Sallah for remembering his father’s tireless efforts for the development of the country’s football, adding that these are the kind of things they want to help develop the country’s grassroots football.
