The Berending man, who was reportedly attacked with a machete in the bushes of Gunjur, has been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul, a family source told The Standard.
Kotu Drammeh, a resident of Berending, reportedly sustained grievous bodily injuries after being hacked with a machete by a man currently under custody at the Gunjur police station.
Police sources said the matter is being investigated and preliminary investigation suggest that the attack, which occurred last week, was as a result of a dispute over land.
“The suspect is still detained here at the Gunjur police station due to the gravity of the assault,” an insider of the Gunjur police station told The Standard.
“My father is being admitted at the ICU but I suggest you contact my older brother who can enlighten you more on the incident,” one of Kotu’s sons told this medium.
Efforts to reach the brother however proved futile as we went to press.
A police source told The Standard the suspect had admitted to attacking the victim in a legitimate self-defense.
“The suspect confessed to attacking the victim because he was defending himself from him after he[victim] attempted to attack him over land issue,” added the source.
