Many Gambians have called on the authorities to change strategy in quarantine after reports emerged of chaos, bribery and escapades from there.
Last night, The Standard received volumes of proposals for the government to mandate arriving travelers to be quarantined at their own expense.
“Everywhere in the world the norm is you travel, you pay for your own compulsory quarantine. Gambia must follow similar style. It’s not sustainable to be keeping people in hotels and spending D32,000 on each in the two weeks of their stay there. Gambians abroad must know that it is not safe or normal to travel in this pandemic so they should stay where they are or they must face mandatory quarantine to be paid by themselves when they arrive. That will limit travelling among many,” said Bakary Cham, writing from Germany.
