Fajara South FC yesterday came from behind to beat Gambia Rush Soccer Academy 2-1 in the Alhaji Kebba Manneh memorial tournament at the Cocktail football field in Fajara.
A long-range first half strike from Rush midfielder Yankuba Touray was cancelled by two fine goals from set-pieces in the second half of the match, with Omar Dibba and Arfang Colley getting on the scoresheet for Fajara.
The final was intense and highly competitive, with both teams showing hunger in search of glory, but in the end, Fajara got past their impressive opponents, who showed some good technical ability.
The winners went home with a giant trophy and cash prize of D15000, accompanied by 25 gold medals and a new set of jerseys.
The runners-up took home D10,000 with 25 silver medals and new set of jerseys.
Individual awards were also given to the most Discipline Team SK Juniors with a cash prize of D3000.
Teenage striker Ablie Manneh of Rush won Best Player Award, with Fajara’s Ousman Ndow scooping the Best Goalkeeper Award and teammate Ansumana Manneh Leading Goal Scorer Award,
The organising Chairman Nyaw Kebba Ceesay congratulated both teams and paid homage to the late Alhaji Kebba Manneh, in whose memory the 16-man tournament was staged.
“We also feel grateful and happy that the tournament has been a successful one. Indeed, it was the first of its kind but we now have to focus on continuing developing our grassroots football and promote unity within the football fraternity in this country.
