The Gambia is paired with Ghana in this summer’s Wafu nations cup draw held in Senegal last night. The tie is among seven others to determine which eight nations of the 16 countries will progress to play in the Wafu Nations Cup proper.
The eight losers of the play-offs will themselves play a lower competition called the Plate also to take place in Dakar. The Gambia was represented at the draw by Coach Omar Sise whose team the Under- 23 squad will participate in the tourney.
All 16 member countries will travel to Dakar where the knock- outs and the subsequent two different tournaments will be played. “The draw is such that it will separate the 16 teams into two, the winners play the Cup while the losers play the Plate”, a source told The Standard yesterday.
