GAMBIA-SENEGAL SPORTS FRATERNITY MEETING AT FATICK

The historic qualification of the Gambia national team the Scorpions to her first Africa Cup of Nations is among the toss of appreciation expected at a grand sporting and cultural communion and gala taking place in Fatick, Senegal on June 12.

Orgainsed by the Ndeye –Ndiaye Tyson events production, the gala which would also celebrate the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) on their rare achievement would be preceded by a major wrestling contest to be staged at the Massène Sene Stadium in Fatick to pay tribute to the Senegalese Minister of Sports Matar BA who is also the Mayor of the area, also the birth place of President Macky Sall. ”We have considered placing this event under the banner of fraternal relations between the Gambian and Senegalese people and particularly the fraternal relationship that binds Presidents Adama Barrow and Macky Sall,” the organisers announced in a letter of invitation extended to The Gambian president.

 Musa Sise, President of The Gambia Sports Journalists’ Association said the event is important to the already good relations between the two countries’ sporting fraternity and governments. ”At the level of the sports press, the two countries share activities and programmes annually and with both countries now qualified for the AfCON, there is even greater opportunity and need for closer collaboration in the area of sports. Minister BA is very much passionate about Gambia – Senegal sporting relations hence invitation for Gambia authorities to attend the event,” Sise noted.
