The decision was reached at the recently concluded International Cricket Council, ICC/ACA Africa Annual General Meeting (AGM) in South Africa.
The President of the Gambia Cricket Association GCA Johnny Gomez and his secretary general Wilfred Riley attended the meeting.
According to a statement issued by the GCA, the meeting accorded the opportunity for the nations from the region referred to as North-West Africa (which now includes Morocco) to discuss the way forward to develop the game in their region and how to revive the North-West cricket championship, formally known as the quadrangular.

The Gambia was then proposed as the host of the tournament for this year.
