Brigadier General Alhagie Martin of the Gambia Armed Forces has been sent on administrative leave, military sources told The Standard.
According to our sources, Martin has in fact been on leave since May as he started working on his appearance at the TRRC where he was severally mentioned adversely.
“He has been sent on administrative leave over this TRRC matter since May, hence his appearance in civilian dress at the hearing,” our source added.
The Standard also contacted the PRO of the army, Major Lamin Sanyang who confirmed it.
The General made his first appearance before the TRRC Thursday where in a marathon testimony, he both admitted and denied allegations of human rights abuses against various individuals at various times during Jammeh’s 22-year rule.
Meanwhile, the army PRO has also confirmed to The Standard that 6 soldiers have been arrested over the last few days and they are helping the military police in investigations.
He however declined to give any further detail, only saying that any such disclosure may hamper the investigations.
