The Gambia Football Federation’s Technical Department has finalised the modalities for the implementation of a pilot school football tournament which is set to kick off this weekend.
The programme is part of the implementation stage of an MoU signed between the GFF and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. The pilot grassroots tournament will be competed amongst schools in the three regions of Banjul, Kanifing and West Coast in the form of schools playing against one another in their respective regions.
Eight schools are chosen from each of the three regions and each school is scheduled to play a minimum of eight matches. The tournament is expected to kick off on the 28th February 2019 for schools in Banjul while Kanifing and West Coast will also kick off their tourney over the weekend on Saturday 2nd March.
This will run until June when the regional champions will play to decide the winner.
The Federation and the Ministry signed an MoU earlier in January where the two parties agreed to jointly partner for the development of grassroots football through the schools.
