The Gambia will not be part of the 2020 edition of the African Nations Cup for local league players. Known as the CHAN the competition is designed by Caf to give an opportunity to footballers who are playing in their domestic leagues to have international competition and exposure among other things.

Gambian players and fans have welcomed the programme and have been enthusiastically excited about it in the last few years since its introduction.
However the Gambia will miss the very next one because the GFF announced Wednesday that it could not register the team in the qualifiers for lack of money.
The full statement from Football House on the matter is published below:
The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) wishes to inform the general public that it was made aware of the schedule for the CHAN registration and following consultations it decided not to register that category team in the qualifiers.

The reason for the Federation’s decision is premised on the fact that participation of our national teams in competitions has a serious financial strain on us and at this point in time we do not have the required finances to register all our teams in competitions.
Even though it is our desire to see all categories of our national t participating in competitions,

due to the above stated reason, a decision was made not to register the CHAN Team for this competition.
However, we want to reassure the public that we will register the team and all other teams in future competitions when we have the necessary finances to undertake such task.
