The sports family will tomorrow decide who runs The Gambia’s Olympic movement, as the much-delayed elective congress of the Gambia National Olympic Committee takes place. The event starts t 11am at the GNOC office , Kanifing.
The contestants for the top job are Beatrice Allen honorary IOC member and current 1st vice president of the GNOC and Lamin King Colley Commissioner of Police. Both have named a strong team they wish to man the rest of the positions in the board. Beatrice vows to run a programme of reform using her experience to deliver good governance, to class athletes and infrastructural development among others.
Mr King Colley meanwhile says he will change the GNOC to become a true national institution accessible to everyone and not “just a selected few.” Beatrice selected Lamin Kaba Bajo the current president of the Gambia Football Federation as her deputy, while King Colley preferred Ba Dodou Jallow president of Gambia Volleyball Federation.
Again, Beatrice Allen wants Ous Wadda as 2nd VP while King Colley wants Johnny Gomez of the cricket association as 2nd VP.
The choice of the Beatrice camp for secretary general is Yoro Njie while King Colley nominated Peter Prom as secretary general.
