Contrary to widely circulated reports of his re-arrest in Senegal, murder suspect Buba Drammeh is still on the run, The Standard can reveal.
Buba Drammeh escaped from custody at the State Central Prisons in Banjul last December as the state prosecuted him on charges of killing a certain Buba Jammeh in Gunjur almost two years ago in a dispute over land.
The Sawo Kunda clan of Gunjur and Berending were embroiled in a long-running land conflict and the dispute came to head in February of 2019 when Buba Jammeh was allegedly shot dead by Buba Drammeh.
He was arrested by a squad from the Anti-crime Unit almost a year after the murder and taken to the Brikama High Court where he has been undergoing a murder trial.
“As far as we are concerned, Buba Drammeh escaped from the prisons. We don’t have any official information about his whereabouts anywhere; not in Senegal or any other place,” police spokesperson Superintendent Lamin Njie told The Standard.
Meanwhile, the police said they have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his escape from Mile II.
