It was a night of joy and party for Medina United FC, the new force in Lamin Nawettan who captured the league title on Sunday, inflicting a 2-0 revenge on Prisons FC.
After losing out in the Knock Out championship to Prisons, Medina vowed to avenge the sad experience after setting up an almighty final with the wardens.
It came on Sunday and while the entire village watched star player Baboucar Tambadou exchanged turns with Sulayman Secka to condemn Prisons to a 2 -0 imprisonment that lasted 90 miserable minutes for the wardens.
It is the second title for Medina who also won the Knock-Out back in 2015.
“We are now hoping to register in the West Coast regional league having now proven our selves in many ways as a big team,” said Eric Nicol an official of the team.
Formerly Lamin Medina, the team was formed in 2000 and stormed the Nawettan in 2001 recording its first major success in 2015 when it landed the Knockout . Last year the team received a great boost when Medina resident Michael Nicol, based in the US, took over the team injecting a new lease of life including a rare twist of hiring a coach just for the Nawettan.”It paid off and the team has reached an epic state,” a fan commented.
