The Gambia national football team deputy captain Omar Colley, on Friday made an unprecedented D500,000 donattion to the Ministry of Health to help towards the country’s fight against Coronavirus.
Colley,27, plays for Italian club- Sampdoria. The presentation took place at the Ministry of Youths and Sports office.
Presenting the donation to the minister of sports, the GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo expressed his pleasure and delight in presenting such a substantial cash donation from one of the senior national team players and thanked Omar for complementing the efforts of the government to combat the spread of Covid-19.
Sports minister Hadrammeh Sidibeh responded with great admiration for the donation:
“I am really impressed that Omar has taken his leadership role. He has demonstrated that he is a leader.
This is a wonderful gesture and I am proud to say this is why we invest in sports. I really appreciate this move and hope others will follow”.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Fanta Baye Secka, who deputised the Minister of health Lamin Samateh, expressed appreciation to the player for showing leadership and also for contributing as a Gambian.
