The leader of a party in the offing called Gambia Liberation for Independence and Democracy Party, Almameh Sabally, has said he has abandoned setting up his own organisation and joined the UDP.
Sabally made this announcement at ceremony at the UDP leader Ousainu Darboe’s residence Friday.
Speaking to The Standard, Sabally said: “My reasons of coming here today is to collaborate with the UDP, because my people who are from Baddibu, have told me to come to UDP so that we can work together as a team, and work towards the development of the country. Political parties are bandwagons for national development. They are not business institutions. So we do not create political parties for our personal interests.”
Ousainu Darboe expressed his delight over Sabally’s decision to join his party noting that Mr Sabally is not a newcomer to the UDP because that is his original political home.
Other Speakers included Aji Yam Secka, deputy party leader.
