Pa Suware Faye, the deputy manager of the Bakau Independence Stadium has told the National Assembly Select Committee on Tourism, Youth, Culture, Arts and Sports that current management of the Stadium inherited 17million dalasi debt from the former management.
The debts are owed to Social Security, Income Tax, NAWEC and Gamtel. “The former management were taking overdrafts from different banks. If one bank closes its account then they open another account at another bank,” he alleged.

He disclosed that the stadium owed Nawec alone some D3M. “We agreed on a D50, 000 payment plan with Nawec per month in addition to any bill due each month.”
As for social security, Faye said they have an agreement to make sure that monies owed as staff contributions are paid including even those gone on retirement.
The committee members later visited the National Sport Council and The Gambia Olympic Committee in Bakau.
