A worker at the radio told The Standard: “Nobody knows the reason for our closure by the authorities. Our manager has been asked to report back to the police on Monday.”
The closure of the trouble-ridden radio came following a press conference called by the management on December 24, where they announced that the radio will launch its website and broadcast 24 hours a day from this month.
Taranga FM has been closed down by the authorities at least four times. It was allowed to resume broadcasts exactly a year ago.
When contacted yesterday afternoon, police spokesman ASP David Kujabi said he could not make an immediate comment on the matter as he was not au fait with the details of the matter.
The Gambia Press Union was also not available for immediate comment on the matter by the time we went to press.
