Scorpions Coach Tom Saintfiet has released Gambia’s provisional list for next month’s Afcon 2021 Group D campaign which begins in Angola to be followed by a visit by the Leopards of DR Congo in mid November.

The provisional list of 36 players according to Saintfiet would be trimmed down shortly to the required number that would be used for both legs. They include Bakery Jatta, a 21-year-old forward, who arrived in Germany as a refugee and has been playing for Hamburg since 2016, Jatta was investigated earlier this year over his identity following queries from three second-tier German sides.

Authorities in Germany could not find a reason to take action under immigration law and the clubs withdraw their objection.
“He is fully cleared now and that’s the reason I have selected him, I couldn’t select him earlier because he was not yet cleared,” Coach Saintfiet told BBC Sport.

The coach has retained almost the squad of players that played the preliminaries . Saudi-based goal keeper Modou Jobe (Toldo) tops the list for goal keepers and is expected to make a return after a stellar performance in the preliminaries against Djibouti which was decided on penalties .

Omar Colley and Pa Modou Jagne (Nda) are both in the list while youngsters Ablie Jallow, Ebrima Colley and Alasana Manneh are also expected to make a comeback following their great performances at home recently.
Hamza Barry, Modou Barrow, Sulayman Marreh and Babucarr Trawally (Steve) have been called again and Saintfiet is highly hopeful of their return to the Scorpions .
