A 70-year-old fisherman is feared dead when his boat capsized in Bakau last week.
Another fisherman with him was rescued by a passing boat.
According to sources at the Bakau beach, the victim was one Alagie Bara Njie.
A source told The Standard that the survivor had said the old man had tried to cling onto the boat, hoping help would come but he ran out of energy and succumbed to the waves.

Pateh Gibba, public relations officer of the fire and rescue services confirmed the accident.
“There were two people who went out fishing and unfortunately an accident occurred and as a result, one of them lost his life whilst the other was rescued by another boat which was travelling to an unknown destination.

He was seen waving at them, calling for help. Fortunately they saved him and that was the time they called the fire service,” he said.
Gibba urged fishermen to use their life jackets and other safety kits that can support them in case of any emergency.
It is not yet clear whether the old man’s body has been recovered.
