The chief of Kombo South, Lamin Darboe has said that any decision on the petition against the alkalo of Banyaka by the villagers would be made by the Ministry of Lands and Local Government.

Many natives, including elders of Banyaka in Kombo South, demanded the resignation of Alkalo Lamin I Camara, who was appointed in 2015.

A petition signed by the elders and copied to relevant ministries including the ministry of lands and other departments, quoted village elders as saying that they are unhappy with the alkalo’s system of administration, which they said is “breeding instability and dividing the people”. The alkalo has denied all allegations against him.

The issue has been festering for months; however, a village meeting was convened Thursday with a view to resolving the problem.

“I have heard all that has been said here [at the meeting]. The reason for this meeting in my district is to know and understand the ongoing alkaloship crisis of Banyaka. We are not here to add on to the problem but to find solutions to it,” Kombo South chief, Seyfo Lamin Darboe said.

“All that has been said here will be prepared by my secretary and taken to the office of the governor including the Ministry of Local Government and Lands for a final decision on the crisis,” chief Darboe said.

He appealed for calm and peace whilst the authorities deliberate on the issue.

“It is the Minister of Local Government and Lands who called and assigned me to convene a meeting on this crisis. He is concerned. That is why I am calling on all parties to allow and wait for the final decision from the ministry,” he appealed.

Many elders of the village, including other natives, attended and spoke at the event, which was stormy and heated.
