The Gambia National Women’s U-20 Scorpions fought gallantly to narrowly lose to Burkina Faso in the first leg of the Women’s World Cup preliminary qualifiers on Saturday in Ouagadougou. It ended 3-2 to Burkina with Gambia coming from behind but failing in her attempt to equalise the score. But the Young Scorpions lost Neneh Jallow to a second bookable offence, and the deficit in man power was exploited by the advantage of the hosts who added a third to make 3-2. But with two vital ways goals, the Girls need only 1 -0 victory to go through to the next stage on February 1.
The next stage for the winner of the tie is match up against Nigeria.
