Gina Bass has become the first Gambian to reach the final of the 200meters sprint at the World Athletics championship. She finished 3rd in last night’s semifinal placing herself among the world’s top women runners in this event going for the final later today.
Already the African champion in this event, Gina will hope to go into the records as the first Gambian to win a medal at the world games today when she hit the track again in the final.
“We are hoping she could make at least the bronze which in itself will be great achievement for the Gambia. Even at this stage, she has broken every Gambian recorded in athletics.
No Gambian has ever reached a world championship final of any sort,” said Arthur Jackson a former Gambian athlete now secretary general of the Gambia Athletics Association GAA.
