The Global Youth Innovation Network (GYIN), in collaboration with partners, completed last Wednesday a three-day training for 50 youth leaders on peace building and conflict transformation. It was held at a local hotel in Kololi.
The training was designed to address identified needs of youth organisations in various aspects of conflict resolution and peacebuilding, such as conflict analysis skills.
Momodou Edrisa Njie, the executive director of GYIN, said the training will strengthen the capacities of the youth leaders drawn from regional and national youth associations across The Gambia.
“This is the second batch of 25 participants drawn from NBR, CRR, and URR. Last week, from 17th to 19th February, we conducted the same training for 25 participants drawn from Banjul, KM, WCR, and NBR,” he explained.
He said topics such as advocacy for conflict resolution, communication and conflict handling skills, and startegies to dealing with prejudices and discriminations will be discussed.
He said a comprehensive, participatory, and interactive training manual on conflict transformation and peacebuilding education for youth associations has been developed, and that it outlines the training module, methods, and delivery systems.
Established in 2012, GYIN Gambia is a national youth network with focus on rural development.
The orgamnisation works to support women and youths in the areas of innovation, agribusiness, leadership and entrepreneurship through capacity enhancement, networking, coaching, mentoring, volunteering and service learning.
