Under the auspices of the National Coordinating Committee for The Gambia’s participation in the Africa Nations Cup, Afcon, all Gambian electronic media and internet platforms would synchronise to broadcast a national telethon programme todoy. The programme starts at 6 PM and will run until 8 PM. “This is the biggest opportunity to bring the fund raising process to the attention of the Gambian people. We are hoping and calling on all to follow and choose any convenient way of donating to the country’s preparation budget, which stands at D117M. This money will go into organising a training camp for the national team, hiring of a plane to transport both the players and fans, match bonuses, allowances, hotel accommodations, local transportation among many other expenses connected to it,” NCC officials said yesterday.
Already the NCC has put in place other avenues for people to donate, this include walking to any Trust Bank branch and donate to the Road to Afcon account, sending SMS or calling 2888 Africell line, or simply visit the Sports Council at the Independence Stadium to make a donation. The Gambia qualified for the Afcon for the first time and will be among 23 other nations to compete for the African football title in Cameroon from January 9 to 6 February 2022.
