SJAG mourns Sise Sawaneh

The Sports Journalists’ Association of The Gambia (SJAG) is mourning the death of its member and former vice president, Miss Sise Sawaneh.

Sawaneh died in a car accident on Wednesday afternoon, 9th October 2019, while travelling to watch a football match in rural Gambia.

Two other people have also been confirmed dead.

Until her demise, Sawaneh used to work for The Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS).

Prior to this, she has worked for several other media houses. She was one of the most promising young female sports journalists in The Gambia.

She was also a very proactive youth and women’s rights activist.

Musa Sise, President of the Sports Journalists’ Association of The Gambia described Miss Sawaneh’s death as a big loss to country’s sports journalism fraternity.

“News of Sise Sawaneh’s demise has shaken us all. A vibrant and ambitious young girl whose contribution as a former executive member of SJAG was well recognized.”

He added: “Sise was a committed and hardworking young journalist.

Her prospects were evident. We will surely miss her at SJAG and the entire media fraternity. She was a very friendly being.

“We at SJAG are very saddened and we pray for her gentle soul to rest in eternal peace.”
