In a rather pleasant twist of fate, the former executive director of the National Youth Council Lamin Darboe has just won a prestigious UK government scholarship.
The Chevening Scholarship is a prestigious UK Government’s global scholarship programme that offers future leaders the unique opportunity to study in the UK.
The scholarships are awarded to outstanding professionals from all over the world to pursue a one-year master’s degree in any subject at any UK university.
“I will be pursuing MA in Migration and Global Development at University of the Sussex, Brighton, UK,” Lamin Darboe confirmed on his Facebook page.
Darboe, a widely respected youth administrator, was removed from his position little over a month ago sparking wide spread outrage among many youths organisations who called the move interference in the affairs of Gambian youths.
“I have special thanks to Allah the Almighty for my life, my parents, colleagues, and friends for all the support. I won’t do justice without mentioning my mentor Oumie Sissokho Kinteh and all those who have provided reference or guidance throughout the process,” he concluded.
