The United Nations Development Programme on Friday handed over office furniture and ICT equipment to the Independent Electoral Commission.
The equipment include 21 executive desks, 21 office chairs, 42 visitors chairs, 14 laptop computers, 14 printers and 15 internet Wi-Fi routers.
The handing over ceremony was held at the Election House in Kanifing.
Speaking at the event, the UNDP resident representative Aïssata De, said the equipment are meant to strengthen the institutional capacity of the IEC ahead of planned 2020 election. She added that the partnership between UNDP, IEC and national stakeholders in the electoral process has come a long way, starting with the electoral needs assessment mission in September 2019.
Ms De also revealed that the UNDP is supporting the rehabilitation of four regional offices at Mansakonko, Basse, Brikama, and Kerewan in addition to the formulation of the CSO Coalition on Elections 2021-2023 Strategic Plan in partnership with IRI.
IEC chairman Alieu Momar Njai expressed his gratitude and noted that the commission had recently published its electoral calendar outlining its major activities for the electoral cycle 2021- 2023.
